Wardrobe is an important part of television media training.

What you choose to wear on television will have a huge impact.  Viewers are
making instant judgments based on your appearance.

If your clothes are old fashioned, people will assume your ideas and products
are equally dull and uninspiring.

Wear your best outfit. Keep it modern and preferably made in New Zealand.

Ties are no longer essential for men, especially in the heat of summer. But a tie
does send a message of authority.  Wear one when you want to impress.

Avoid white shirts, short socks, tightly woven patterns like herringbone, loud or
unnecessary jewellery, and blatant advertising or logos.

Men:

  • modern designs, not old favourites
  • Charcoal or dark blue suits, rather than black
  • Open neck shirt under jacket is acceptable
  • Shirts in solid colours - light blue, striped or check.
  • Do wear a suit and tie on TVNZ's NZI Business

Women:

  • Simple rather than fussy designs.
  • Neutral colours in jackets and suits
  • Collared shirts rather than low tops
  • Regular makeup in natural tones
  • Long hair pulled back off face/shoulders.
